Hyundai Engine and Transmission - FAQ

1. What Is a Dual Clutch Transmission?
The dual-clutch transmission (DCT) is a type of automatic transmission. It combines the convenience of an automatic transmission with the control over shifting and the fun of driving a manual transmission. The manual transmission side is controlled by a computer, so you get no pedal, little work, and ease of use. DCT offers the benefit of increased efficiency, faster shifting, and better cooling.
2. What Is the SHIFTRONIC Feature?
The SHIFTRONIC technology gives you more control over gears and allows you to shift on an automatic transmission. In certain circumstances, such as going uphill, it allows you to manually upshift or downshift your automatic transmission vehicle.
3. How Do I Use the SHIFTRONIC Feature?
To use the SHIFTRONIC feature, ensure your gear is in Drive, then slide the shift lever into the SHIFTRONIC gear. Push the shift lever forward to upshift or backward to downshift. For vehicles that have paddle shifters, use the paddle shifter on the right side of the steering wheel to upshift or the one on the left to downshift.
4. What Is Smartstream Powertrain?
The Hyundai Smartstream is a radical innovation in the industry. The Smartstream encompasses Hyundai's new engine technology, efficient and fuel-saving lineup of powertrains, and Intelligent Variable Transmission that's a giant leap forward over conventional CVTs. It also employs faster combustion that improves fuel economy and enhances performance.
5. When I Start My Car, Do I Need to Let It Sit to Warm Up?
Most modern cars only take about 30 seconds to warm up. Hyundai vehicles only need about 10 to 20 seconds to warm up after you've started the engine. During rougher Canadian winters, though, it's recommended you let the engine run for slightly longer before placing it in gear.
